So overall, July has been a great month with lots of reading going on around the world... Now if only the sun would keep shining on Bo’ness everything would be fantastic!
And looking forwards, there’s a lot going on in August. Whether you’re looking for a book to take to the book festival, some information on the hill climb or an introduction to that Olympic sport you’ve been meaning to take up, we hope to see you back in the shop soon!

International Book Festival takes place from 9th -
Tickets are now available for most events at the Stirling Book Festival ‘Off the Page’ which runs from 13th – 20th September 2008. Authors and events at this year’s festival include Cathy Cassidy, Jess Smith, Val McDermid, Aline Templeton, Janet Paisley and many others. The festival takes place at various libraries and central locations in Stirling. Visit the official website here for full details.
The Edinburgh International Book Festival takes place from August 9th -
In July, the winner of the ‘Best of the Booker’ award was announced as Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie. It first won the Booker Prize in 1981 then was also chosen as the ‘Booker of Bookers’ in 1993.
The longlist for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction 2008 was announced at the end of July (full details can be found here) with the final shortlist to be announced in September.
Heading down to London soon? Check out the very first BBC Proms Literary Festival at the Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall and Royal College of Music. Running throughout August to September 10th, it will accompany this year's BBC Proms and will look at the relationship between writers and composers. It will feature such names as Stephen Poliakoff, Rowan Williams, Hermione Lee, Ian McMillan, and Matthew Sweet. Visit the website here to find out more.

Subject Specific Updates
The saga continues... Unfortunately we still have yet to bring you the subject specific updates we’ve been promising since day one. The original process we had cleverly devised for them is proving a little trickier to implement than planned! There are various technical ins and outs involved (aren’t there always?), but we’re currently looking into new ways of organising everything and will let you know once these are ready to go. Apologies to any of you who’ve been looking forward to these updates, but hopefully we’ll get everything up and running soon!!
